Mu Alpha Theta (MAΘ) held its first practice meeting for High School Mathematical Contest in Modeling (HiMCM) on Aug. 26 during activity period. Nathan Warkentin, MAΘ adviser, said that he is “excited to have MAΘ teams participate in this competition for the first time.”

“HiMCM is a completely different competition from previous competitions MAΘ practiced for—it focuses on creating a mathematical model rather than on pure mathematics,” Mr. Warkentin said. “HiMCM will provide a unique opportunity for students, shedding light on the field of modeling, conducted by professional mathematicians.”

Ian Park (11), contestant of HiMCM, said that he is looking forward to participating in the competition.

“I have experience in American Mathematics Competitions and World Mathematics Team Championship, but I have never tried modeling,” Ian said. “It is a new challenge that I am excited to take part in with my friends.”
