Blackpink sets new records with Born Pink
Blackpink’s second studio album Born Pink debuted on the Billboard 200 albums chart for the Oct. 1-dated charts, making history.
This is the group’s first album to rank first on the Billboard 200 chart, a significant achievement for the team. Born Pink is also the third Korean album to top the billboard album chart in 2022, following BTS’s Proof and Stray Kids’ Stray Kids Mini Album: Oddinary.
The ranking for the Billboard 200 is based on each album’s popularity, measured in equivalent album units provided by Luminate Data. Born Pink earned 102,000 equivalent album units, with most of its credit coming from its album sales.
Blackpink’s record is particularly important because Born Pink is the first No.1 by a female group since Danity Kane’s second album Welcome to the Dollhouse in 2008.
“Pink Venom,” the lead single of Born Pink, was also a major hit, debuting at No.22 on the Billboard 100 chart dated Sept. 3. This song also spent two weeks on the Global 200 chart, revealing its popularity even outside of the US.
“As a fan of Blackpink since their debut, I was not only shocked but also very proud of their huge accomplishment,” Dayeon Han (11), dedicated Blackpink fan, said. “It is so exciting to see them creating history everyday after watching them grow since their debut. The recent news also makes me look forward to K-pop becoming more and more popular and enjoyed around the globe.”
