Adidas cuts ties with Kanye West
Adidas announced the termination of its contract with Kanye West on Oct. 25, ending a six-year shoe and fashion partnership.
West had previously said on a now-pulled episode of the Drink Champs podcast that he “can say antisemitic [things] and Adidas cannot drop me.” This came following West’s suspension from Twitter and Instagram for antisemitic remarks.
“He should have seen it coming,” Yoonseo Kang (11), avid music listener, said. “Because of his behavior towards Kim Kardashian and his ‘White Lives Matter’ shirt, Adidas dropped him to uphold its reputation.”
Adidas condemned West’s comments as “unacceptable, hateful and dangerous” and in violation of “the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.” NBA player Jaylen Brown and NFL player Aaron Donald also announced their departure from West’s sports marketing company Donda Sports for similar reasons.
“His recent behavior had very harmful implications and was irresponsible given his influence,” Yoonseo said. “I am glad that Adidas dropped him.”
