Man City Defeats Real Madrid in Champions League Semi-Finals
On May 18, Manchester City defeated Real Madrid 4-0 in the second leg of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League Semi-Finals, resulting in a 5-1 aggregate victory. On June 11, Manchester City will be facing Inter Milan in the finals.
The first leg that occurred on May 10 resulted in a 1-1 draw, so the team proceeding to the finals will be chosen from the second leg.
Bernardo Silva, Portuguese midfielder, scored in the 23rd and 37th minutes, which placed Man City at an advantage in the first half. In the second half, Manuel Akanji’s header deflected off of Real Madrid centre-back Eder Militao and went into the goal in the 76th minute. Julian Alvarez scored an additional goal as soon as he was substituted in the 91st minute, securing the team’s victory. Real Madrid had very little possession of the ball and was dominated by the offensive stance of Manchester City.
“Manchester City is performing exceptionally well this year, and this game shows their superior tactics and talent.” Andrew Ro (10), varsity soccer player, said. “Haaland and De Bruyne have always shown consistent performance, while other players like Bernardo Silva and Akanji are also contributing more and more for the team. With Pep’s current tactics, I think that Man City have a real chance to win the treble.”
Due to Man City’s victory, many commentators claim that Man City’s chances of achieving the treble have increased significantly. Man City has already won the Premier League and is also currently awaiting the Emirates Football Association Cup Finals against Manchester United on June 3.
