On Aug. 21, Taylor Swift publicly addressed the Eras Tour cancellation in Vienna on her Instagram. This decision was made after terrorist attack plans were discovered to take place at Stephansplatz, the place where the concert was to be held on Aug. 8. In her post, Swift expressed that the cancellation of the concert filled her “with a new sense of fear.”
As the concert was anticipated to draw around 200,000 attendees, many fans were devastated to hear about the cancellation. One of the main organizers of the event, Aleksandra Dimitrijevic, expressed that she was “in shock and couldn’t believe it.”
“I feel really bad for the people who were supposed to go to the Vienna tour,” Jiwoo Kim (9), Taylor Swift fan, said. “But I think it was the best choice because it’s better than her and the fans getting hurt.”
Adjustments had been made to The Eras Tour after the incident. During the tour in London, fans were not allowed to gather around the Wembley Arena―the place in which the concert was being held―before the concert began, unlike previous Taylor Swift concerts. This event revealed how vulnerable concerts are to violent terrorist attacks, and led to the implementation of safety protocols.
