On Sept. 10, American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift showed her support for Vice President Kamala Harris right after the presidential debate in Pennsylvania. With 284 million followers on her Instagram, Swift uploaded a picture with her cat, calling herself a “childless cat lady,” alluding to what J.D Vance, former president Donald Trump’s running mate, had said to criticize the Democrats. She also addressed the AI-generated deep fakes of her supporting Trump, which Trump posted on his social media recently.
“It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” the global icon said. “It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth. I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.”
“I’m not a fan of Taylor Swift, so her endorsement wouldn’t affect my stance,” Chris Bracciano, pop music enthusiast, said. “I believe her post would be very influential.”
After her instagram post, 405,999 people visited vote.gov.
