Every school year, SIS athletes have become increasingly engaged with the media. Beginning with the change in the Hall of Fame to the highlight videos produced by Tigers Film Club (TFC), the SIS community has participated in growing school spirit. On Sept. 20, Tigers Sports Council (TSC) and SIS Yearbook took the next step: media day.
Media day is for athletes to take professional pictures and for TSC to use those pictures to promote the teams. In the past, TSC uploaded pictures of the athletes during their games, but with media day, the council is able to use a variety of pictures. In collaboration with Yearbook staff members, fall season athletes had the opportunity to take team pictures, and varsity players were able to take individual pictures as well.
“Our purpose was to showcase the athletes more,” Grace Choi (12), TSC executive, said. “We wanted the athletes to have a memorable experience. It was a time for the athletes to get together as a team. Overall, we were really happy with the results. The recording room, where we took the photos, has a lot of colorful lighting.”
Athletes described the media day as entertaining, as they had the freedom to choose their poses.
“I had a lot of fun with my team while taking media day pictures,” Yoonwoo Lee (11), varsity boys volleyball player, said. “We really enjoyed coming up with group poses. I am excited to see the pictures on TSC’s Instagram page.”
Motivated by the sports council’s renewed vision, athletes and students of SIS are becoming increasingly excited to participate in the school’s spirit.
“We have three main goals for this school year,” Brandon Fraseur, SIS Athletics Director and TSC advisor, said. “First, we want to promote teams and student-athletes at SIS. Second, we want to enhance school spirit on campus. Ultimately, we want to make the sports events that we host the best in KAIAC and AISA conferences.”
