On Oct. 4, British rock band Coldplay released a new album called Moon Music, sparking attention. The band has a loyal fanbase, and they are recognized for their technicolor melodies and emotional lyrics. Their new album Moon Music explores themes including resilience, hopefulness, loss, and love.
“I’ve always listened to Coldplay with my dad while he drove me to school,” Sungjoon Hur, a Coldplay enthusiast, said. “For me, Coldplay symbolizes my childhood. My favorite Coldplay song is ‘Viva La Vida,’ which makes me feel nostalgic.”
Chris Martin, lead vocalist for Coldplay, said he wanted to embody ideas of optimism with this new album, with its lyrics full of affirmations of humanity’s potential. Although Moon Music was not described as an award-winning album, fans still received it positively.
Along with dropping their latest album, Martin announced that Coldplay will release only two more “proper albums,” with their 12th being the last. Martin said that “less is more,” and emphasized the importance of setting limits for themselves, especially to maintain a high quality for their music. Although Martin said that he would continue to make music even after the retirement of the band, fans refer to it as an “ending of an era.” Fans hope Coldplay will continue to flourish their creative spirit in new ways through their last few albums.
