On Oct. 2, varsity girls and boys volleyball teams traveled to Nowon-gu, a full two-hour drive away from SIS, to play against the APIS Greenhawks in their third away game of the season. In the past months, the varsity boys maintained a strong streak of wins until they faced two consecutive game losses against the GSIS Knights and the CDS Daltons. With two losses under their belts, the results of the APIS game would ultimately determine whether the varsity boys could rise to the higher division next year.
During the APIS game, the boys started off strong by winning the first set with a score of 25-21. However, as soon as they won the first set, APIS quickly stole two consecutive sets against the SIS Tigers, ultimately handing them the lead. After a tense point-to-point game, leading all the way to deuce, the boys managed to win the fourth set, granting them the chance to win against APIS in the fifth set––whoever won the fifth set to 15 points would win and have the chance to advance to the higher division. Through great efforts, Liam Lee (12) and Noah Ko (11) were able to blast through APIS’s defense, winning the final set with a score of 15-11.
“The game was overall a good lesson to the team,” Glen Monaghan, varsity boys volleyball coach, said. “Listening to feedback given by each other, the boys were able to catch momentum and secure a win.”
