Former One Direction member Liam Payne was found dead after falling or potentially jumping from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires on Oct. 16.

Payne rose to global stardom in 2010 when he debuted in One Direction with his band members, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik,Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan with whom he shared a strong bond. Even earlier this month, Payne had visited Horan’s concert in Argentina.

According to the Buenos Aires police, a report of “an aggressive man who appeared to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol” was filed to the office. After they were dispatched, the police found Payne’s body in the hotel courtyard. Although the police investigation is currently ongoing, many are suspecting suicide caused by an overdose of drugs. Fans were shocked because they did not know Payne was on drugs.

“It really shocked me when I heard the news,” Sarah Kim (11), One Direction fan, said. “Reading all the personal messages the members posted for Liam, and the video of fans gathering outside the hotel lighting candles and singing in his memory made me cry. We will all miss Liam very much.”
