Lee Jin Ho, a Korean comedian, has recently faced controversies regarding his activity in the illegal gambling scene. On Oct. 17, Lee Jin Ho uploaded an Instagram post confessing about his gambling but further his guilt towards the action.
After his police investigations, it was found that he borrowed money from celebrities such as Jimin from BTS. It is estimated that the money Lee Jin Ho has borrowed from his acquaintance, bank, and others totals up to 2 billion Korean won.
Following Lee’s attendance at courts, his contracts were terminated for many programs.The Korean program Knowing Bros signed Lee Jin Ho off after his allegations of crime.
“It is largely his [Lee’s] fault that he committed such a crime and borrowed money from others that he can’t pay back,” Ben Lee (10), Korean netizen, said. “But there’s still room for his redemption because it looks like he is regretting his actions.”
Although the level of Lee’s crime is serious, he is showing actions to redeem his wrongdoings. In his Instagram post, he says that he would compensate for the harm that he caused and sincerely apologize for the social controversy that he caused.
Korean netizens, despite their initial disappointment, regard Lee Jin Ho with more lenience. Many claim that even with his faults, Lee Jin Ho’s way of dealing with problems and effort to work with the situation that he is in showed that he is not the worst person.
His actions are also being compared with multiple other celebrities that had allegations about crimes and how Lee Jin Ho’s actions are a better example of them.
“Although committing a crime itself is bad, his reaction to it was very careful,” Rachel Shin (10), avid internet user, said. “It would be better if many celebrities reacted like him.”
