Aespa returned with their latest mini album “Whiplash” on Oct. 21. The album has demonstrated formidable global reach by topping the iTunes Top Album Chart across 17 regions, including major markets like Japan, Brazil, and Russia.
“Whiplash” had a strong performance in Asia, reaching number one in multiple Chinese charts, such as Tencent Music’s K-POP Chart and QQ Music’s digital album sales, where it received a Double Platinum certification. In Japan, it topped AWA’s real-time rising chart and Mora’s foreign song charts, signaling Aespa’s broad and enthusiastic fan base across regions.
“I did notice that Aespa is, once again, charting everywhere,” Minseo Park (11), K-pop listener, said. “I feel like it happens every time they make a comeback, and it is great because they deserve it.”
Fan reactions on MLBPARK, one of the largest online forums in Korea, have showcased immense praise for Aespa’s unique experimentation with the Northern European EDM style. The music video as well as each member’s new aesthetics were met with a positive reception from both Korean and international fans.
“Aespa always surprises us,” Lucy Park (11), Aespa fan, said. “They always switch their vibes up, and it keeps us wondering what is next. It is exciting to follow a group that is not afraid to experiment and grow with each comeback.”
In celebration of Whiplash, Aespa launched an experiential pop-up event titled “aespa WEEK – #Whiplash_mood” in Seongsu-dong, Seoul. The event features a series of interactive and visually immersive installations inspired by the edgy, futuristic style of the album.
