History Honor Society (HHS) participated in International History Bee and Bowl (IHBB) on Nov. 2 which was hosted at Dulwich College Seoul.
First founded in 2010, the IHBB is an international history competition that hosts the annual Asian Championships and the biennial International History Olympiad in which 25 countries participate. International schools across Korea participate in this tournament. The competition usually consists of two parts: bowl, where teams compete against another, and bee, where individuals go against each other.
For this tournament, members of the HHS were divided into four teams: Team A, Team B, and Team C, all of which participated as varsity, and Team D, which participated as junior varsity.
“Before the competition and we got into divisions [of different teams], we practiced as a whole group,” Alina Lee (10), first-time participant of IHBB, said. “When we practiced as a whole group, there were people of much higher skill level than me, which made it hard for me to participate. In IHBB, as we are competing in divisions there are more chances for me to answer questions.”
Overall, the A-Team from Dulwich College Seoul won the title of varsity champion for the history bowl, while Donghyun Kim (12) from the SIS A-Team became the varsity champion for the Bee.
This IHBB tournament provided a chance for both experienced and new students to compete with historical knowledge and interact with individuals from different backgrounds.
