As crowds of students begin queuing in line, the smell of steaming Spam-Mayo cupbaps and spicy ramen begin filling the Snack Shack. This describes many SIS students’ office hours, as they rush in line to fill their empty stomachs after an exhausting first period.
HSSC has recently announced new additions to its menu, including a new variety of ramen (chapagetti, carbonara fire noodles), hotteok, Pororo drinks, vanilla and chocolate ice cream, cereal, and more. Due to low popularity, the council also decided to remove items such as the chocolate milk, hotbar, Homerun Ball, chicken mayo cupbap, and Sun Chips.
With a data collection system recording customer purchases, HSSC identified items worth keeping and those worth removing.
“ I think our main reason for changing the Snack Shack menu wasn’t necessarily that there was intrinsic problem [with] the previous menus,” Woosung Choi (11), HSSC Project Coordinator, said. “The reason we decided to change the menu was to revitalize the students’ desire to buy from the Snack Shack to boost our sales and our profits. This way, we can make better school wide events in the future. We’re definitely going to have some special menus and a few seasonal changes every now and then in the coming future.”
With the school store and the Tiger Den downstairs, where menu items are constantly being revamped to attract more students, HSSC hopes to maintain its relevance through these new item changes.
“I could definitely see a lot of popularity with some of the menus, especially the new ramen flavors and hotteok,” Evan Kim (10), frequent Snack Shack visitor, said. “I am quite satisfied with the recent changes HSSC has made in expanding their menu, but I think the council could also make adjustments in terms of the payment method. Adding other options besides cash would definitely bring more customers to the Snack Shack.”
