HSSC will hold the Hori Games in Tiger Gym 1 and the soccer field after school on Mar. 21. The event takes inspiration from the Korean drama series “Squid Game,” including some of the traditional Korean games featured in the show.
“Squid Game” quickly became popular, becoming the most-watched Netflix show in 2021. The show highlights childhood games prevalent in Korean culture but with a deadly twist. Its sequel was also a great success, amassing over 150 million views and becoming the third most-watched TV show on Netflix.
Some of the games featured in the Hori Games will include the Mingle Game, Red Light Green Light, Dalgona Challenge, and other original games developed by HSSC. The after-school sports practices on Friday have all been canceled to allow all interested high school students to participate in the Hori Games. Prizes for the event winners include Stussy clothing, gift cards, an iPad, a film camera, and more. Approximately 70 high school students have signed up to participate in the Hori Games.
“We did not have any past events to base our original games on, so we took longer to create this event,” Jason Kang (10), HSSC member, said. “The Hori Games is also one of the most expensive events we have hosted, making it especially rewarding. I am very excited about this event and think it will be an enjoyable experience for the high school students. It would be safe to expect more unique events like these in the future.”
