SIS’s History Honor Society (HHS) hosted the International History Bee and Bowl (IHBB) on April 26. The competition, held biannually in April and December, is composed of 2 sections: the Bee, where students compete as individuals, and Bowl, where students compete in either JV or varsity teams.
Several schools, such as Saint Paul Academy Daechi and Dulwich, competed in this tournament. On the day of the tournament, teams competed in 5 preliminary rounds for bowls. SIS A Team (varsity) and SIS B Team (JV) were both able to compete in the final and semi-finals, with the A Team winning second place and the B team winning third.
SIS students also saw a lot of success in the History Bee. The Bee is divided into three sections, consisting of varsity, JV, and middle school, and has three preliminary rounds and a final round with five of the top scorers in the preliminary rounds. Many SIS students placed as finalists in the rounds, with all five finalists in the JV division being SIS students. Donghyun Kim (12) won 1st place in the Varsity Division, Tyger Byun (9), Zoe Chang (10), Oscar Lee (9) won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the JV division, and Sean Jin (9) won 3rd place in the middle school division.
Both the SIS A and B teams and several Bee finalists qualified for the Asian Championships held in June in Thailand, and the International History Olympiad in France in July.
