The fall sports tryouts began on Aug. 13, consisting of cross country, volleyball, tennis, and golf.
In the days that followed, a number of students were selected to be a part of each varsity team, with coaches having to make difficult choices in choosing individuals with the most potential to make an impact on their team. Cross country, in particular, has the largest number of athletes this year, as every single student was allowed to be a part of the JV or varsity team.
“We put a lot of effort into feedback, making sure people are getting information about what they need to work on, and seeing how people change and adapt their game based on their opponent is an important skill that many students have to learn,” Ross Atkins, boys varsity tennis coach, said. “For students who are still early into their varsity careers, this may be more difficult compared to those who have been involved in varsity sports for more than three years.”
While the fall sports season tends to start at a time when students are still getting familiar with their new classes and teachers, many students still look forward to the exciting practices and matches that lie ahead.
