The HSSC hosted the annual Freshman Late Night (FLN) for the new Class of ’29 on Aug. 12, directly after the club fair on the first day of school. An event dedicated solely for the newly risen freshmen, FLN was organized to help the freshmen adjust to the novel environment of high school.
HSSC organized a variety of events to help the freshmen feel more comfortable, including a Water Balloon Fight, Spin the Bottle, Zombie Tag, and even an all-expenses-paid dinner buffet.
This year’s FLN was hosted on a half day after club fairs, before Fall season sports tryouts began. This was revised from last year’s format, which had two separate shifts of freshmen attending the event due to the overlap with the tryouts. This change in schedule allowed for a united community, in which its inclusive environment sequentially provided an enjoyable experience for everyone.
The freshmen expressed positive feedback about the event, complimenting the event on how it provided assistance in adapting to the new setting.
“I think FLN was definitely a good first experience for all freshmen to transition from middle school to high school,” Aiden Cho (9), Class of ‘29 and FLN attendee, said. “It was especially meaningful for the event to be on the first day, as it helped to reconcile with friends who were unable to meet over the summer. Opening up with a carefree and just fun event was a memorable experience and definitely relieved some anxiety and fear that I had about high school. Overall, I enjoyed Freshmen Late Night, and it is definitely going to be an experience I will reminisce about two or three years into the future.”
