Mercedes team and one of their F1 drivers, Valtteri Bottas, will be hosting a show run with Mercedes-AMG W13 F1 E in Seoul city. This event will take place on Oct. 12, 13 years after its last F1 event in Korea. During the show run, the F1 teams will drive cars on public streets or and set up race courses to give fans a close-up race experience.
“I’ve watched some F1 races when I lived abroad, but never experienced that a show run will happen in Korea,” Yena Kim (11), avid F1 fan, said. “Even if Mercedes is not my favorite team, I really want to go watch the event.”
The show run will include a series of events prepared for the audience: artist concerts, Mercedes MD booth, Mercedes paddock duplicate, showcar display, photobooth, and signing of Bottas. The exact location of the circuit is yet to be chosen between Gwanghwamun, Jamsu Bridge, Everland, or Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX).
Korean F1 fans were encouraged to purchase the early and the regular tickets that were on sale throughout August and September. Peaches, organizer of the event, revealed how over 45,000 applications were received during the early stages of ticket sign-ups. They added that the global hit “F1: The Movie” significantly played a role in F1’s rising popularity in Korea.
The event holds an important meaning to the F1 fans in Seoul, not only because of the rare experience to witness the F1 driver in Korea, but also because of the tears of Yeongam that happened 13 years ago. In 2012, Korea hosted an honorable F1 event for the fans but ended up short-handed due to insufficient infrastructure. The October show run will be a place where Korea can possibly redeem its reputation and present a memorable experience to the Korean F1 fans.
