Coming to SIS from Curacao International School in the Caribbean, April Jeanette Johnson, secondary librarian, has also taught in New Mexico and Texas, where she received her librarian certification. She decided to teach internationally because she loves to travel and experience new cultures.
According to Ms. Johnson, the best aspect of being a librarian is that she can work with a variety of students from the whole school, helping them to use the vast number of books and online resources available. Besides reading books, Ms. Johnson enjoys watching movies, taking photographs, playing board games and reading comic books, especially The Avengers.
Although it has only been a few weeks since she arrived in Korea, Ms. Johnson is thrilled to observe first-hand what her friends and her older brother, a soldier who was stationed in Korea, have experienced, including watching Korean soap operas. After living in the Curacao, a Caribbean island, where it is warm all-year round, she likes the fact that Korea has four seasons.
“I have never taught in Asia before, but SIS seems like a great place for me,” said Ms. Johnson. “I like working with students, I like finding information and I like looking into helping students find answers to questions.”
