During the week of Feb. 23-27, HSSC hosted its first-ever apple pie sale, welcoming the warm delicacy into SIS’s cherished office hours. Students flocked to the Snack Shack during the week to get a chance at enjoying the warm slice of pie paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. While disappointed students trudged away after hearing the calls of “SOLD OUT,” the lucky students who had rushed to the line walked away triumphantly with pies on their hands.
“Apple sales were extremely successful,” Devona Wilson, HSSC Advisor, said. “Adding ice cream as an addition to the pie put us over the top and helped boost excitement around the snack shack.”
This year, HSSC has started to introduce temporary food sales, where specialty items such as pumpkin pies have captivated both students and teachers. With over 100 apple pie slices sold over the week, the sale proved to be hugely successful, with some students even buying bulk orders to share with their friends.
“The pie sale was one of the busiest weeks we had at the Snack Shack,” Jason Kang (11), HSSC public relations, said. “A lot more students came than I had expected, and it was a really busy time cutting slices, warming them, and then scooping the ice cream. However, I think the event was still fun, and considering that the students loved it so much, we might do more events like this.”
Not only did the pie sale rejuvenate sales at Snack Shack, it brought together a large number of the student body. Joyful anticipation that filled the line of the Snack Shack proved that even the most seemingly basic ideas can bring back the high school body’s sweet tooth and foster communal spirit. Furthermore, students’ full participation in these sales mean that the HSSC can host more events for the whole school, benefiting everyone with one slice of pie at a time.
