“KPop Demon Hunters” took the world by storm, and now Season Two has been confirmed by its directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans on March 12. The specifics of the sequel, including its release date, and full release may not be released until 2029 or later. However, the two directors noted that “this is only the beginning” and expressed their hope for the quality of the sequel.
“I had fun watching the first season of K-pop Demon Hunters with my sister,” Roy Lee (10), K-culture enthusiast, said. “I am a little disappointed about the release not happening until 2029, but I’m still excited that they confirmed the new season. I will be intently waiting for the new story.”
The movie has been a sensation since its release in June 2025, reaching over 500 million views worldwide on Netflix. HUNTR/X, the protagonist KPop group of the show, was also the first “KPop” group to reach no. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, with “Golden” being the first KPop song to receive a Grammy Award. To further add onto the show’s already impressive list of achievements, “KPop Demon Hunters” recently received two Oscars for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, specifically for “Golden.”
In short, the impact and professional recognition received by the show were significant, and there are high hopes for the sequel to carry on the legacy of the first. With the story of the first movie ending on a hopeful but still suspenseful note, notably with the fate of Jinu, the male protagonist, a mystery, the second movie still has plenty of content to cover and questions to answer.
