SIS unveiled its biggest annual event, National History Day (NHD), where the NHD Council collaborated with the HSSC to operate the Snack Shack on March 7. With a specialized menu featuring a variety of new foods, including tteokbokki, Cup Sweet & Sour Chicken, and pizza, the improved Snack Shack received an influx of customers.
However, the increase in menus also meant that more preparation and organizing were needed before NHD was hosted. The HSSC executives collaborated to complete all orders and sorting, ensuring the Snack Shack was prepared for the big day. The executives planned an exhaustive list of shifts, with all HSSC members included throughout, to prevent customer buildup and ensure comprehensive participation among the members.
“I spent a free period of English 11 with other HSSC executives in my class to collect all deliveries for pre-ordered food from the annex building and sort each refreshment in their respective places,” Jason Kang (11), HSSC Public Relations manager, said. “It was a lot of load to handle with so few of us, but we managed to come through with good cooperation. It especially took more time with the workload since we had to account for the setup of the newly added menus.”
Although the collaboration between HSSC and the NHD council was unprecedented and rather abrupt due to a last-minute notice, the HSSC’s intricate planning and effective execution resulted in a major sales success overall. Lines of customers flowed in and out of the Snack Shack, eager to try the fresh dishes to satisfy their hunger after the long event.
“The entire event was a frenzy,” Devona Wilson, HSSC adviser and supervisor of the Snack Shack sales, said. “Due to the amount of advertisements that were put up, whether it be through posters or announcements, we had a constant flow of people visiting the Snack Shack. Without the intense preparation set up beforehand by the executives, the entire booth may have fallen apart.”
The soaring popularity of the specialized menu also meant that constant reorders between shifts were necessary. Simultaneously with the check-ins for essential reorders, the executives kept an ongoing list of every order that came in to track the profit margins generated from the event.
As NHD approached its closing ceremony, the Snack Shack also wrapped up its sales. With over seven hours dedicated to operating the shack, the entirety of HSSC showed immense commitment to supporting the special collaboration with NHD.
