As the 2025-’26 academic year comes to a close, HSSC had one final event planned: a Spring Formal. HSSC hosts numerous major events over the two semesters, with the most preparation and effort devoted to the final event. With the previous two years consisting of successful operations of ‘Casino Night’ and ‘Hori Games’, HSSC decided to bring back a formal for SIS underclassmen and teachers.
The formal, which all HSSC members pitched in to help prepare since returning from spring break, planned numerous events and refreshments to keep participants engaged. They incorporated a variety of performances, ranging from vocal and guitar duets to stand-up comedy shows.
The showcases were followed by mini-events organized by the HSSC members. Such games included ‘Chubby Bunny’ and arm wrestling, along with activities like a rented photobooth and a decorated gazebo for participants to enjoy on their own.
The event started at 5:30 p.m. and lasted two hours, allowing students to change into their formal clothing and observe the sunset in the gazebo. HSSC members finalized all preparations for setting up the tables and placing food orders.
“I liked the Spring Formal event because of the formality that was shown amongst the participants,” Andrew Chang (11), Spring Formal guitarist, said. “The reactions that the audience showed were amazing, which encouraged me to perform to the best of my abilities. The refreshments and neat setup of the entire event made it feel like an actual outdoor prom.”
Although the rather late timeframe for the Spring Formal was intended to account for rising outdoor temperatures, considering participants’ formal attire, some students were unable to participate due to other event conflicts.
“I really wanted to attend the Spring Formal, but had an unfortunate overlap with a ‘Daniel Caesar’ concert that released my seat confirmation on the same day,” Yena Kim (11), unfortunate abandoner of the Spring Formal, said. “I think it would have been a lot more successful if the event had no other conflicts with outside events, or if it had started at an earlier time.”
