Forensics speech members getting to know one another during the first speech meeting of the school year.

On Aug. 6, Public Forum (PF) and Lincoln Douglas (LD) teams met virtually through Zoom to hold their first club meeting for the ‘22-23 school year.

Amber Watkins, the new PF and LD coach, and students first spent time getting to know one another. After a brief period of introductions, both PF and LD teams went hard to work in discussing their motions and preparing for the first tournament to be held on Oct. 15 at SIS for the first time in 3 years.

On Aug. 7, the Forensics speech team also convened for the first speech meeting in the SIS drama room. Iain Cowieson, the new Forensics speech coach, and members shared laughs while reviewing the upcoming tournament’s topics.

“It was nice getting to see everyone again,” Allison Lee (11), returning Forensics member, said. “It will be interesting to hold speech tournaments offline now, since we have been online for the past few years.”

The speech team soon divided into smaller groups, each representative of each student’s event of choice. With the speech tournament on Oct. 14, members are gradually choosing their pieces and writing scripts for their events.

With new coaches and members for both speech and debate, the Forensics team can look forward to a great season of both teamwork and many wins.
