Despite being the newest addition to the varsity sports roster, the SIS golf team has put itself shoulder to shoulder in terms of victories with some of our school’s other well-established sports programs. Just last week, the golf team had its first friendly match against SFS, with the boys dominating with a 20+ stroke lead.
“We are starting off the year strong with this win,” Yool Choi (11), varsity golf player, said. “We lost to strong teams like SFS every time we played against them last year; it is different this year.”
Unlike in previous years, the golf team has established a highly selective tryout system, cutting almost half of the applicants this year. The open-varsity nature of the team had not helped in gathering prospects and if anything, encouraged mediocre athletes to shoot their shot. However, with the sudden surge in golf interest, the coaches were able to implement more rigorous selection processes, ensuring that the most dedicated and skilled players made the team.
With the SIS golf team stronger than ever, they are poised to make this season their best one yet.
