Teddy, a renowned producer who co-created THE BLACK LABEL, announced the arrival of a new K-pop girl group called “MEOVV” on Sept. 6.
Prior to disclosing the debut showcase for MEOVV, THE BLACK LABEL broadcasted details through pop-up stores. Additionally, the “MEOVV Debut Pre-Listening Pop-Up” on the Heights Exchange was held from Aug. 29-Sept. 4 where visitors got a sneak peek of songs yet to be released, such as their debut song “MEOVV,” along with access to merchandise and photo zones.
MEOVV raised excitement within THE BLACK LABEL and many global fans as the first girl group under Teddy’s production. Teddy had announced that there would be five members in the group: Gawon, Sooin, Anna, Narin, and Ella, who all have distinct facial features.
Regarding the member lineup, K-pop fans had been awaiting the announcement with the 20-year-old Korean-American dance prodigy and choreographer Bailey Sok who ended up not making the final lineup. This was shocking news to many fans of Bailey Sok.
“I think that Bailey Sok was not included in the final lineup because she has a different vibe from the rest of the group,” Ellen Park (11), D$Q member, said. “Although she is a talented and well-known dancer, I believe that she relatively does not fit the ‘cat’ concept the other members of MEOVV possess.”
As MEOVV makes an introduction to the K-pop music industry, it is also going global as the group was represented by the Capitol Music Group, a famous music label in America. Along with their addition as a global K-pop group, fans around the world are looking forward to seeing them flourish and make new music.
“Although MEOVV only debuted recently, their powerful choreography and captivating vocals were very impressive in their first music video,” Nabin Won (10), K-pop fanatic, said. “I look forward to the variety that they will bring to both their dance and music styles in the future, and how they will creatively express them to the audience.”
