The Korean Ministry of Sports expressed its dedication towards resolving the problem raised by Ahn Se-young after the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Ahn, the gold medalist of 2024 Paris Olympics badminton, revealed the national badminton association’s unreasonable management, captivating the public’s attention. According to Ahn, the association neglected the athletes’ needs and made numerous issues such as embezzlement; she further stated the current situation made her hesitant to participate in the next Olympics.
There were numerous opinions expressed by the public, but the atmosphere was generally positive: the majority of the public posits that it was a necessary step for the betterment of national associations that are often corrupted.
Amidst this discussion, the Korean Ministry of Sports revealed their active support for Ahn Se-young, altering two main things: personal equipment usage and eligibility to participate in international competitions. Prior to change, it was both the authority of the national association to assign equipment and offer a place at international competitions; this sought to restrict the freedom of many players.
“I think Ahn Se-young disclosing the corruption of the Korean badminton association was quite necessary,” Yena Kim (10), a badminton fan, said. “Korean professional sports leagues are known for benign corrupted and brave actions like these possibly would mark a start to the betterment of the whole industry.”
