Christian Homer, the head of Red Bull Racing and the sponsor of the legendary F1 racer Max Verstappen, released controversial statements on his social media on . He stated that “FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) had overcomplicated the rules for F1 driving.” Chief among his statements is that the rules make racing even harder for the already stressed drivers.
The controversy came after the recent race when Max Verstappen had a run-in accident with fellow racer Lando Norris. Some believe that Verstappen’s driving style had caused Norris a spot on the podium and the two racers had many close call crashes during multiple laps in the most recent US Grand Prix.
“I don’t think Max is leaving F1 anytime soon. Drivers have a very small window when they are at their peak. I think when he feels his skills slipping he will step out of the car. I don’t think he would be willing to be a mid-pack driver,” Michal Darrah, F1 enthusiast, said. “If he would decide to leave I think there would be a void.”
The two racers’ situation is further complicated by their long-standing rivalry. Just last year, Verstappen made a close victory over his rival. Many F1 fans are worried that Homer’s statement could have potentially major repercussions for Verstappen. They worry that this action could potentially lead to the group “getting revenge” for his comments by banning Verstappen from competing the next season.
The problems don’t end there, however: illegal cars and car components. This controversy revolves around racing company Mclaren which was accused by Red Bull Racing, Max Verstappen’s sponsor, for issuing upgraded and augmented vehicles to their racers.
“In my opinion, both Red Bull Racing and Mclaren are at fault,” William Park (11), avid F1 fan, said. “However, when considering the fallout and severity of the issue, I believe that Mclaren is more to blame for the issue considering how deeply he fell.”
