After an intense campaigning season for all HSSC candidates, the final speech and election event took place from May 26-28. The event saw each candidate take the podium and orate their promises in an attempt to appeal to the wider high school community. Finally, all students of their respective grade levels voted on five candidates that they saw best fit to represent them next year.
“I have been seeing a lot of posters around the building, and it is definitely interesting to see what each candidate has to offer,” Selina Lee (10), registered sophomore voter, said. “Regardless of who gets elected, I hope that the council members can properly represent my opinions.”
HSSC is widely known in high school for hosting various events, representing student opinion, and fostering school spirit within the community. This year, they have so far hosted the Fall Festival, Assassin, Freshman Late Night, and the Spring Formal on May 29. Next year, it will be up to the new HSSC team to continue this duty and host reincarnations or novel events to improve the sense of community and spirit in High School.
The candidates for the Freshmen were Brandon Yoo, Do Yeon Kim, Gyeom Kim, Jacob Sung, Sally Kim, Sean Byun, Siwoo Choi, and Tevin Bang, for a total of nine candidates. The sophomore grade featured Allison Kim (), Ethan Park (10), Ian Kim (10), Leona Gohde (10), Michael Jang (10), and Minjoo Kim (10), a total of six contestants.
After all participant student voters cast their votes, Do Yeon Kim, Gyeom Kim, Jacob Sung, Sally Kim, and Si Woo Kim were selected as the Freshmen representatives. Allison Kim, Ethan Park, Ian Kim, Leona Ghode, and Michael Jang were elected for the sophomore year. The new representatives will not take their position until next year, with the current team finishing their service towards the community then as well.
